About the MS-SLP Purdue University course
A two-year, full-time programme leading to the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology involves graduate-level courses with a focus on diagnosing and treating problems of speech, language, and swallowing across the lifetime. The program interweaves coursework and clinical experiences to help students gain the necessary information and abilities for successful evidence-based practice as speech-language pathologists.
Students participate in the department’s on-campus Communication Disorders Clinic throughout their first year of the programme to receive clinical experience. During their second year, students conduct clinical training in off-campus placement locations such as schools, inpatient and outpatient medical facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Program Requirements for the MS-SLP Purdue University course
- Submit your application online using both the Centralized Application Service for Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDCAS) and Purdue’s online application process. Both a CSDCAS application and a Purdue application must be submitted by applicants to clinical programmes (including dual track).
- Cumulative Grade Point Average from most recently conferred undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree:
● 3.0 or equivalent (A=4.0)
● Applicants who do not meet the cumulative GPA requirement will be considered for
● Admission if their GPA for the most recent 60 semester credit hours is at or above a 3.0
- Personal interview conducted after an initial review of the written application.
- Admitted students must prove they are qualified to work with vulnerable groups, such as children and persons with disabilities, as determined by the state and the institution by successfully completing a criminal background check.
- TOEFL iBT – 100 (Minimum Scores: Writing 22, Speaking 28, Listening 22 and Reading 22)
TOEFL PBT (overall score is no longer reported) – Reading 19, Listening 14 and Writing 18
IELTS – An overall band score of 7.5 is required for admission with the following minimum section requirements:
Reading 7.0, Listening 7.0, Speaking 7.0 and Writing 7.0

● Diversity essay -Please submit a diversity essay of no more than 500 words describing your leadership, professional experience, volunteer work, or other significant involvement with racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, or educational communities that have historically been underrepresented in higher education. The essay should also explain how these experiences would foster a diversity of viewpoints, experiences, and ideas in the pursuit of research, scholarship, and creative excellence.

Prerequisite courses for the MS-SLP clinical degree
Students should have coursework that covers material from the following key areas:
● Normal anatomy & physiology for speech and hearing
● Acoustics or normal phonology
● Linguistics or normal language development
● Aural rehabilitation other than sign language
● Aearing disorders and hearing evaluation phonetics
Finish all the following scientific and statistics background courses before starting the graduate program for the MS-SLP program. ASHA certification requires completion of these courses. Additionally, Students should get in touch with Vicki Black, the graduate programme secretary, as soon as possible if they have any issues about background courses.
● 1 course in biological science (focus on animal or human biology)
● 1 course in physical sciences (focus on chemistry or physics)
● 1 course in behavioral/social sciences (Soc., Psy., Rel., etc.)
● 1 course in statistics covering t-tests, analyses of variance, regression (correlation) and non-parametric statistics (e.g., chi-square). This should be a stand-alone course in statistics. Research methodology courses may not be used.
