The 132-question SLP Praxis examination (code: 5331) covers the foundational knowledge, assessment, and treatment of all speech-language pathology-related topics. You’ve probably heard of the “Big 9” fields of study throughout your graduate career; this test covers them all. A third of the questions are about the fundamentals of several speech-language fields, a third are about evaluating speech-language disorders, and a third are about treating them.

The SLP Praxis exam can be finished in 150 minutes, which means you have little over a minute to respond to each question. It’s useful to know how much time you have for each question because it might help you manage your pace while taking the test.

162 is the passing score. The Praxis website doesn’t specify how many questions you must correctly answer to pass in detail. What we do know is that you can receive a score between 100 and 200 and that you can find out your preliminary score. A few weeks after you take the test, you typically receive a paper copy of your official score. Keep this since ASHA will need it for your CCCs and certain companies might need it for your first SLP position.

The Praxis Exam and ASHA Certification
Once completing all graduate-level academic coursework and a clinical practicum, individuals become eligible to apply for certification after the graduate school determines that they have mastered all of the information and skills required by the current requirements. After applying for certification, candidates have two years to finish the certification process, which includes passing the Praxis exam. All applicants must successfully complete the national exam in the field for which the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is desired, according to the CFCC.
When to take the SLP Praxis Examination
It is advised for individuals to sign up for the Praxis exam and take it no sooner than after their graduate coursework and clinical practicum are over, or during their first year of clinical practise after graduation. Candidates should consider any state licensing requirements with regard to passing the exam.
